2nd Guitar Ensemble Weekend In The Peak District April 2011

In early 2010, I re-united with my close friend and previous duet partner, Lorraine Eastwood to organise a new guitar course specialising in ensemble playing to be held in the beautiful area of the United Kingdom known as the Peak District; the success of this first venture has prompted us to make it an annual event.

The attractive Alison House Hotel, Matlock, Derbyshire is the venue this time and the three-day residential course will run from 1st - 3rd April 2011. The weekend offers guitarists a wonderful opportunity to take part in an orchestral situation where two large-scale guitar ensemble compositions will be worked upon. Parts for the orchestra will range in difficulty from around Grade 3 to Grade 8 and are allocated in accordance with the student's standard.

For those who are interested, on the Saturday afternoon, a duo/trio/quartet master-class will be offered to any students wishing to participate. A list of music will be sent out in advance to any players who would like to take part in this.

On the Saturday evening a short concert will be given by Lorraine and myself and on the Sunday afternoon a performance will be given of the two orchestral pieces with everyone taking part.

Alison House Hotel is an AA 4-star Georgian-style house built by the famous Arkwright family and situated in the Derwent Valley World Heritage Site. It stands in seven acres of grounds with beautiful gardens in a peaceful setting.

There is an informal bar, lounge and an elegant dining room overlooking the gardents. The guitar course (and concert) will be held in the spacious Conference Centre adjacent to the hotel in the midst of the landscaped gardens.

The weekend is restricted to 20 students so early booking is advisable.
